His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone made a visit to Qingdao on December 5, 2016. Wu Peng, China Ambassador to Sierra Leone, and Xia Geng, vice governor of Shandong Province, accompanied the visit in Qingdao. Zhang Xinqi, the mayor of Qingdao, met with President Ernest Bai Koroma at Shangri- La Hotel.
Zhang Xinqi expressed welcome to the visit of President Koroma and introduced the economic and social development of Qingdao. He said Qingdao implements an international city strategy and has advantages in industries, shipping and tourism etc. China and Sierra Leone keep good friendship over 45 years since the establishment of diplomatic relationship between the two countries. The economic and trade relation between Sierra Leone and Qingdao become increasingly close and the total trade volume in the first 10 months of this year reaches 53 million USD. Qingdao Municipal Government will further strengthen friendly exchanges and cooperation with African countries and the municipal government will take this visit as an opportunity to further strengthen contact with Sierra Leone and promote practical cooperation between the two sides.
Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma expressed appreciation to the warm reception by Qingdao. He said Sierra Leone has huge development potential in port, aviation and tourism and the President welcomed enterprises in Qingdao to make investment at the West African country in mining, tourism development and construction of ports and airports. President Koroma continued that Sierra Leone would learn the successful experiences of China and further improve its business environment to make progress in cooperation between the two sides.
The delegation led by President Koroma visited the Port of Qingdao and Qingdao International Airport during their stay in Qingdao.
Sun Lijie, vice mayor of Qingdao, attended the meeting and accompanied the visit.

The country relies on agriculture and mining and the main mine products include iron ore, diamond, gold, titanium and bauxite etc. In 2014, Ebola epidemic broke out at Sierra Leone and with help and support from China and other countries, Sierra Leone finally triumphed over the epidemic.
